Timothy Prejean

On Monday August 11th, 2015, Timothy Prejean, 42, was sentenced to eighteen months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of interference with commerce by extortion under color of official right.

The charges stem from an ongoing incident in which the Carenco Police officer was accepting money and other perks from Desperado’s Caberet in exchange for overlooking permit violations and criminal activities he was specifically tasked with enforcing as the official liaison officer for the business. The records indicated that Prejean accepted $10,000 in cash as well as free entry, drinks and admission to the VIP room.Prejean’s involvement took place between 2007-2012.

While the Carenco PD Party Boy was living it up the club was involved in drug trafficking and prostitution. Even though these crimes had been officially reported, Prejean failed to investigate, as per his lucrative agreement with the clubs owners, James and Jennifer Panos.

The owners of the club were also charged with the related criminal activity and it has since been shut down.

Despite the fact that licensing exotic dancers is a moronic pursuit that only the most egregious statist would suggest makes any sense, and that the prohibition of drugs and prostitution is far more harmful than drugs and prostitution themselves, Prejean will have to pay for breaking stupid laws they he had agreed to enforce.

His crimes involved no victims, yet he faces far more severe punishment than cops all around the country who brutalize and kill citizens can expect to receive. In fact the investigation into his crimes involved a massive multi agency investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, FBI, federal Homeland Security, Louisiana State Police and Lafayette Metro Narcotics. It is indeed a very broken system when cops can get away with murder yet face federal charges and prison sentences for not interfering with private business transactions and other peoples vices.
