Let’s examine these two headlines regarding CIA Director John Brennan from yesterday, August 10th, 2015.
First, from The Hill:
Apparently Brennan had to answer to a few senators on the Senate Intelligence Committee regarding some rather dubious comments he previously made at a Council on Foreign Relations appearance where he said that his agents never work with countries that abuse human rights.
Not exactly true, according to a letter he recently wrote to Senators Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), and Mazie Hirono (D-HI) dated August 6th:
“We strive to identify and, where possible, avoid working with individuals whom we believe to be responsible for such abuses. In some cases, we have decided to continue those relationships, despite unacceptable behavior, because of the critical intelligence those services provide, including information that allows us to disrupt terrorist plotting against the United States.”
Yet another Brennan lie, or what he calls “extemporaneous remarks”.
On the other hand, you have this headline from ABC News from the same day:
Apparently a gay ex-Navy SEAL Brett Jones has contended that he faced some harassment during his 13-year tenure as a CIA contractor. At his last deployment in Afghanistan, Jones allegedly “encountered a disturbing pattern of harassment and witnessed blatant homophobic, racist and sexist behavior from his own teammates — both contractors and CIA officials. It became so bad, Jones said, that he eventually feared for his life and had to invent a family emergency as a cover story to leave the country early,” ABC reported.
Sounds pretty bad.
However, I would just like to point out the total bullsh irony here.
So yes, the CIA will absolutely work with countries and sources the agency and its director know full-well 100% commit horrible human rights abuses.
But harassment of gay contractors?
Now that, Brennan and the CIA simply cannot stand for.
This country and the people running it are so screwed up.
