OH: Gun Kept at Front Door Used to Shoot Robber

LORAIN, Ohio — A Lorain man shot and killed a robber in what police are calling an apparent act of self-defense.
Glenn Smith Jr., 34, was shot about 5 p.m. Tuesday at a home on the 1900 block of East 40th Street. Officers responding to the shooting found the Elyria man inside the two-story house with gunshot wounds.

The resident told officers that he fought with Smith as the two men entered his home, police said. The man said that he grabbed a handgun he keeps near his front door and fired several shots.
