(Before It's News)

This happens so often, blue privilege, that I almost didn’t even care to waste my time to talk about this verdict. I sat on it for awhile simply at a loss for words and unwilling to vent, yet again, to the choir about it. While the people who need to hear and accept the failure of our police system turn a deaf ear and go on to blindly support it. Then after looking around it seems I have some of the best quality and most complete video of the encounter available on social media. That itself is reason enough, I suppose, to share it so others have the opportunity to make up their own minds, as there is nothing biased in the video or its presentation. Of course it serves as another chance to emphasize the necessity that police be recorded at all times. It also becomes a part of the official record in the long running case of The People vs The State. So I’m convinced! Now its on you to read, watch, like, share, hope that it reaches one of those deaf ears.

LAPD Officer O'Callaghan

O’Callaghan on trial for deadly assault of Alesia Thomas courtesy L.A Times

Last month cruiser dash-cam and backseat videos (see above) were used to convict former LAPD Officer Mary O’Callaghan for kicking Alesia Thomas in the groin and chest repeatedly and for giving her a hiiiiyah! karate chop to the throat for good measure. On July 24th O’Callaghan was sentenced to a paltry 36 months in prison for the assault. I say paltry because this seems to be the good ol’ boys club sentence for Officer O’Callaghan as minutes after this deadly assault was committed Alesia Thomas was in fact dead.

FILM THE POLICE

Of course I’m not personally involved and I don’t wish any ill will toward O’Callaghan the person, it’s just not good long life encouraging mojo, but I understand why some do. I have my own list. What I wish is that this deadly assault didn’t happen at all. I wish that it wasn’t O’Callaghan’s job to capture people for The State, to be punished by The State, for breaking commercial codes created by The State, to raise funds to support, yup you guessed it, The State. Wish in one hand, piss in the other, and see which one gets full first is what I was taught. And not one to piss on my own hand just to prove a point I accepted the metaphor at face value. Wishing’s not going to work, we have to expose this police state if we’re to change it, and in order to do so we have to keep repeating ourselves over and over again to anyone who will listen. We have to share, revisit, re-present the past of the Police State if we are to change the future it portends.

So while on the surface justice has been served and maybe the disinterested will think it’s time to move on to the next case, I just don’t see where this sentence is a victory. It certainly wont stop the next case. It’s just the usual abuse affirming blue privilege. This woman was assaulted and manhandled by police and now she is dead. What’s more, O’Callaghan will appeal. She might even end up back in the police business when it’s all said and done. It’s not like it hasn’t happened before. Can you say James Medina?

JURY NULLIFICATION

Do you know why the police were after Thomas? Why she was even being arrested at all? Because she dropped off her kids at a supposedly safe place because she was not able to care for them. Of course that was an official place and the rules for such places say you can only do that within the first three months of a child’s life. So, she broke the law of The State which in turn called out the enforcers to round her up. You know, to get her help, even if it’s necessary to break her arm as O’Callaghan threatens to do at one point. So the heavy handed arm of The State is used again to punish people for ultimately doing the right thing.

The State is largely responsible for our current social decline. It certainly created the laws, and appoints the enforcers we are commanded at gunpoint to obey, which contribute to the decline by criminalizing the non-criminal behavior of social problems, just to name one. The State has positioned itself as mother, father, and protector to purposely displace the will and energy of the people, and ability of the markets they create, to provide alternative options for social problems. An alternative to a jail cell and asset ID number used to boost quarterly profits for The State and its corporate cronies. The people have become dependent on The State, and thus The State can justify its continued growth. Problem, reaction, solution, the Hegelian Dialectic. Or in nerd speak, “It’s a trap!”.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

That’s right, I’m placing the blame for the death of Alesia Thomas squarely where it belongs, on The State and its criminal thugs. Until the day comes when the archaic notion of totalitarian policing of the general population by a self-interested individual for a self-interested State ends, it cannot be over-stressed how important it is that police actions be recorded at all times, and that we keep sharing these videos even when we think it’s falling on deaf ears. The people are watching and listening.
