PC absurdities from Hollyweird, to sports and politics

Hopping aboard the leftwing politically correct train a few decades late, actress Julianne Moore has launched an online petition to change the name of the high school she attended in Falls Church, Virginia in the mid-1970’s. Moore now claims the school,  J.E.B. Stuart High, named for a Confederate general and Virginia native who was killed in battle during the Civil War, is a symbol of racism.

“No one should have to apologize for the name of the public high school you attended and the history of racism it represents,  as so many alumni of Stuart have felt the need to do our whole lives,” says Moore. a committed liberal and atheist. She suddenly wants the school renamed for Thurgood Marshall, who represented the NAACP in the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education case before becoming a Supreme Court justice.

Her personal background is interesting. Moore, 54, was born into privilege in North Carolina.  Her father was an Army Colonel and a military judge. Her Scottish-born mother, an American educated psychologist, legally immigrated to the U.S. as a child in 1950.  In 2011, Moore chose an odd way to “honor” her newly deceased mother.  The actress, who has amassed great wealth from American movie goers,  renounced her American citizenship.

On Tuesday, ESPN suspended Curt Schilling, after the former Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star pitcher and current  baseball analyst for the network, posted a message on Twitter that drew a comparison between extremist Muslims and Nazis. The tweet which he quickly deleted contained a picture of Hitler and stated, “It’s said only 5-10% of Muslims are extremists. In 1940, only 7% of Germans were Nazis. How’d that go?” Schilling added: “The math is staggering when you get to true #’s.”

It turns out comparisons of mass murderers is politically incorrect. Who knew?

“Curt’s tweet was completely unacceptable, and in no way represents our company’s perspective,” said ESPN in a statement. “We made that point very strongly to Curt and have removed him from his current Little League assignment pending further consideration.” Schilling also serves as an analyst for the network’s Sunday Night Baseball.

Schilling rushed to apologize: “I understand and accept my suspension. 100% my fault. Bad choices have bad consequences and this was a bad decision in every way on my part.”

Apparently mass beheadings — some committed by young boys encouraged by their terrorist fathers, child rapes and burning caged men alive for the cameras works for ESPN.

Democrat presidential aspirant Martin O’Malley actually apologized for saying “Black lives matter,” and adding, “white lives matter, all lives matter.” The former Maryland governor appeared with fellow candidate, self-described Democratic Socialist  Sen. Bernie Sanders (VT), and were shouted off the stage by radicals at the July Netroots Nation conference in Phoenix, for having the temerity to include all lives as having relevance. The extremists in the Black Lives Matter movement do not tolerate expanding the lives that matter beyond their own.

These  politically correct contrivances are reminiscent of Winston Smith, the protagonist in George Orwell’s best seller “1984.” Smith was employed as a clerk in the government’s Ministry of Truth Records Department. His job was to rewrite historical documents to align with the constantly changing current political deception. Newspeak, a reduced language became the tool to limit free thought and concepts posing a threat to the totalitarian regime.  Any form of thought alternative to the party’s construct was classified as “thought crime,” “crime think,” or “doublethink.”

The mind control and group think described in the fictional “1984” is in full bloom in 2015.
