On Thursday a brave lady recorded a police encounter the quickly went viral.
” Marilyn Smith” noticed Miami police arresting a teen who asked why he was being arrested. Blocker observed the cop saying he didn’t need a reason. It is rumored that they found marijuana nearby, but with Miami PDs history, that is very doubtful Click here for story about MPD planting drugs. So naturally she took out her cell phone and started to record. The video shows a teen hand cuffed and escorted to a squad car and placed in the back. Two seconds later the officer (Who the Miami PD has not identified) is seen getting in and punching the defenseless teen numerous times. Shortly after, another officer tried to snatch the camera out of Shenitra’s hand and fails. The officer told her to delete the footage. Of course it is perfectly legal to record the police and she does not have to delete the footage she captured. She put it on FACEBOOK instead.
“We have seen the video and we have launched a full internal affairs investigation into the matter,” Major Delrish Moss said in a statement. “We take that responsibility very seriously. The officer involved in the incident will be relieved of duty as we investigate.”
TRANSLATION: We saw the video and will be investigating ourselves. We don’t take this stuff very seriously. I won’t tell you the name of the officer involved, but he will be on a paid vacation.
The incident also caught the attention of police union president Javier Ortiz, who posted the video on his Facebook page and released a statement.
“While the video may seem concerning to some, the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police) is confident that when everything is analyzed within the totality of the circumstances, it will be concluded that the police officer was doing what he is supposed to be doing: Protecting our community,” Ortiz said.
Javier is on a shameless mission to slander “Marilyn Smith.” For those of you who are not familiar with FOP president Javier Oritz, he’s the guy who brought us this gem.
And this.
And this.
You get the picture. Anyways Javier, you shouldn’t throw stones if you live in a glass house. “Marilyn Smith” wanted to stay anonymous because she is worried about retaliation by the MPD, and rightfully so.
