Scotland to Issue Formal GMO Ban; Meanwhile in America, We Still Don’t Even Get to Know if We’re Eating It
While commercial GMOs are beginning to spread in England, Scotland ministers are about to officially ban the cultivation of commercial GMO crops for good in a move to further distance itself from the UK government (and probably from the nation’s horrifying shebeast queen).
“There is no evidence of significant demand for GM products by Scottish consumers and I am concerned that allowing GM crops to be grown in Scotland would damage our clean and green brand, thereby gambling with the future of our £14bn food and drink sector,” Richard Lochhead, Scotland’s environment secretary, told the London Guardian.
Meanwhile, because multi-billion-dollar Big Agra GMO giants like Monsanto and Dow are based here in America, the citizens who live here get to continue eating their genetically modified products without any meaningful federal legislation to require said companies to inform us as to whether or not it is in our food to begin with, while the companies get to continue to basically regulate themselves and their operatives get to continue walking through that gigantic revolving door on Capitol Hill.
But no worries, it’s totally safe, so says our Deputy Commissioner for Foods at the Food and Drug Administration Michael Taylor (former lobbyist, lawyer, and Vice President of Public Policy at Monsanto).
Our government will never ban GMOs because our government is essentially nothing more than a front for the companies that produce and sell them, and thus, our government knows where it’s genetically modified corn is buttered.
