(Before It's News)

With the Army’s decision to ditch the OH-58 Kiowa Warrior scout helicopters after over 40 years, Joes across the country are feeling the loss.

The Kiowa, an armed and much upgraded version of the Bell Jet Ranger, has been in continuous use by the U.S. Army since 1969. With over 2,000 built, these light scout helicopters have been out in front of the troops looking for trouble in Vietnam, Panama, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Now their service is over, being replaced with a combination of unmanned drones and AH-64 Apache gunships.

However, units from the 10th Mountain in New York to the 25th Infantry in Hawaii and the Big Red One in Kansas are sending them out in style.
