EUROSTAR services have been suspended today after migrants broke onto tracks leading to the Channel Tunnel near Calais.
The company tweeted: “Due to the presence of people near the tracks at Calais, all traffic is temporarily suspended. More information to follow.”
At 7am this morning the company sent out a tweet reporting that all trains were “running on time” and urging people to check in for their journeys as normal. A spokesman has now said that it hopes normal services will resume “shortly” but there were expected to be severe knock-on delays for passengers.
A French passenger confirmed that police had arrived at the scene to confront the migrants.
Customers began to bombard the company with questions on social media, but it said it did not yet know how long the disruption would last.
Chris Skinner tweeted from his train, which has been stopped in Ashford, Kent, saying: “Hmmm. On way to #EBF in Brussels. All good until @Eurostar being delayed due to people walking into the tunnel in Calais. #endmigranthell”
