YouTube and Mainstream media are currently in a literal UPROAR over one simple commentary-style video making its rounds on social media. The name of the 6-minute video is simply “Dear Fat People,” produced by YouTuber, Nicole Arbour.
News networks and talk shows are making a big deal about it, while other YouTubers are reacting to it by making response videos. Of course this firestorm is just bringing more attention to it and delivering even MORE views (and subscribers) to Arbor’s channel. Seems like everybody wants in on the “Dear Fat People” action. Who knows, I may produce one myself. But it won’t be for the reason everyone else is talking about it.
Apparently the video was flagged so many times that Google removed Arbours entire channel for a day or two. Here’s the video:
Many say that enforcing censorship is bogus. People, they contend, should be allowed to say whatever it is they wanna say, however they wanna say it without fear of censorship. Offending people is a natural right every human being on this planet inherently possesses. The free market has a way of getting rid of who it doesn’t want and accepting the ones it does. And let’s face it, statistics show that even since the “Fat People” video, Arbour’s channel has continued to grow at a rate of about 6,000 to 15,000 subscribers a day! Like it or not, there’s obviously a demand for her brand of content.
Part of the problem with giving so much airtime to something that, to many, seems so petty is that there are many other things people should be giving their attention to before dipping their foot into these distracting waters. There are criminals out there….REAL BLOODTHIRSTY criminals, who destroyed the lives of THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE on 9/11 and tens of thousands more in the subsequent wars. They’re roaming free…perhaps plotting their next “terrorist attack.”
There are “officials” working RIGHT NOW to take away more of your rights and freedoms as we get diverted with these lightweight topics.
“Fat Shaming” seems to be the main nerve upon which Arbour leaned. I would just say this: If someone feels shame for what they are today because of the choices they made in days past, it is not the fault of the one who is pointing out your current condition. No one MADE you make those choices. No one forced chips down your throat or held a gun to your head as you slurpped down that last spoonful of icecream before bed…(IF that’s how you got fat).
YOU are the captain of your own ship and the direction in which you are now headed depends largely on you and your desires, NOT the desires and dictates of others.
