Washing your teeth is healthy habit which should be done several times on a daily basis. However, you should devote little attention to your tongue as well. There are lots of reasons to do it.
When someone mentions oral hygiene, we assume they talk about washing the teeth. People rarely think about tongue hygiene, which is also very important. In fact, unhealthy tongue can lead to some serious diseases because it is exposed to numerous bacteria and microorganisms which we enter through foods and beverages. Infrequent tongue hygiene is the main reason for bad breath. Bacteria and microorganisms which disintegrate in the mouth make sulfur deposits in tongue’s lower area. Microorganisms which multiply in tongue’s warm areas are actually responsible for 90% of airways infections.
