An off-duty city correction officer shot and killed a pit bull attacking a homeless man on a Brooklyn street Tuesday, officials said.
The dog had already chomped down on the homeless man’s arm on Herkimer Place near Perry Place in Bedford-Stuyvesant about 1:20 p.m. when the guard heard the commotion and ran over, officials and witnesses said.
He fired one round into the dog’s head, killing the animal, a law enforcement source said.
“(The correction officer) shot the dog,” said witness Rasheed Shaabazz, 40. “He had to. The dog was going bananas.”
