(Before It's News)

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is investigating the theft of dozens of guns in Plano, Texas.

Thieves struck Mister Guns on W. 15th Street at about 3:45 a.m. Wednesday morning, smashing a truck into the wall and then scrambling out to grab up as many rifles and pistols as they could.

The Dallas Morning News reports local police believe 70 handguns were stolen along with one Smith and Wesson AR-15, a LAR-47, a Tavor rifle and “seven or eight AK-47s.”

ATF spokesman Russ Morrison advised the type of crime is rare.

“You’ve got over 7,400 federal firearms licensees in the state of Texas, and you know how many burglaries occurred involving those last year? Thirty-six. So it is a rare occurrence,” said Morrison.

“Does it happen? Sure. But it’s against federal law to burglarize a federal firearms licenees, which means the ATF gets involved, and it’s our job to find out who’s responsible, bring them to justice and recover these guns,” he said.
