UPDATE: Police Drop Charges Against Kid Who Brought “Hoax Bomb” Clock to Class, Blame Him for Being “Naive”

(Before It's News)

ahmed

This is RICH. Or pathetic. Actually, it’s both.

So, after 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed brought a homemade clock to school to show his engineering teacher on Monday, he ended up being arrested for making a “hoax bomb“. The entire time he maintained it was a clock, continually telling everyone over and over, from his teachers to his principal to the five officers who responded to the scene that it was a clock.

Obviously if they had thought the “hoax bomb” was any kind of serious threat, the school would’ve immediately been on lockdown, something that never happened.

Police arrested, handcuffed, and fingerprinted Ahmed and took his mugshot before finally releasing him to his parents. The Irving, Texas PD kept the clock in an evidence locker pending further investigation. Ahmed was still suspended from school for three days, for what, we aren’t really sure.

The principal told Ahmed, “it looked like a movie bomb”. Is this guy an adult? Even little kids know that “movie bombs” aren’t real.

Following an outcry on social media today, the police have finally dropped the charges.

Check out what Irving Police Chief Larry Boyd said during the press conference wherein he tried to impress the nation (and the world) with the idea that this somehow wasn’t instigated by the fact that A) our teachers have been dumbed down and weaponized and trained to make kids afraid of their own imagination and B) this kid is a Muslim named Ahmed:

“Our follow-up investigation was to determine whether there was intent created by what the student brought to school, or whether it was just a naive set of circumstances, with him not recognizing the suspicious nature of the situation,” Boyd said at a news conference.

Gee, doesn’t sound like much of an apology to me.

How is it Ahmed’s fault that he expected the adults in the room to have more common sense than a child would? To not immediately react like scared children themselves at the sight of a few electric components in a box? To investigate what’s in front of their faces before overreacting and jumping to the most ridiculous conclusion possible?

“Instead of encouraging his curiosity, intellect, and ability, the Irving ISD saw fit to throw handcuffs on a frightened 14 year-old Muslim boy wearing a NASA T-shirt and then remove him from school,” Terri Burke, executive director of the ACLU of Texas, said in a statement. “The state of Texas in general, and Irving ISD in particular, need to take a long, hard look at their disciplinary policies to ensure that blanket prejudices and the baseless suspicions they engender don’t deprive our students of an educational environment where their talents can thrive.” (source)

Talent thriving is apparently not what American public schools are for these days.

Jumping on the PR bandwagon, the president has now invited Ahmed to the White House, and even Hillary Clinton Tweeted to Ahmed about how “assumptions and fear don’t keep us safe,” which you know is a sad statement about this situation because she’s all about finding any excuse to fearmonger about and bomb Iran.

Here’s the “hoax bomb” that some people are actually attempting to argue would really scare them, too:

(You can tell they made sure to take the picture with everything dumped over on its side and upside down, to try and make it look more “movie bomb”-esque than it actually is, just by the way.)

Aside from not having any explosive material here — a key component to, you know, a bomb — how many evil terrorist explosives do you know of that take a 9-volt battery?

Ignorance is no excuse for stupidity.

This is just another example of how schools are more about indoctrinating our children to be afraid of authority and, well, everything, including their own imaginations, rather than actually fostering intelligence.
