Police investigating sex abuse claims against Sir Cliff Richard are poised to hand evidence files to prosecutors in the next two weeks, a source claims.
In the most significant development in the case since the star’s home was raided last year, detectives are understood to be ready to ask the CPS whether he should be charged.
The decision is likely to take months. An insider said yesterday: “D-Day is approaching for him. People thought it was all going to go away, but it isn’t.”
The news comes at a key time for the pop legend.
Last week he staged the first UK show of his six-night, sell-out 75th birthday tour – widely seen as a signal he felt confident the 13-month investigation into him would be closed without any further action.
