During the Illinois stop on the MAC tour, where we were graciously hosted by CopBlock Network contributor Ryan Scott. We stopped at the new ten million dollar Delkab police station for a 1st amendment audit. Just as soon as we started chalking a police officer stepped out of the building and bashfully asked us to stop. He was quickly joined by a handful of his buddies.
We asked what laws protected a public police station from chalking, as well as what they were willing to do if we continued? They were unable to provide an answer.
Even though the officers agreed that possession of a badge did not grant extra rights, the ranking officer still felt that CopBlock.org needed to change its slogan. When asked for a suggestion on the new phrase, unfortunately he didn’t have a suggestion.
First amendment audits aren’t the only thing we accomplished in Illinois.
