Multiple
employees were injured in an explosion at Priest Rapids Dam along the
Columbia River in central Washington state, authorities said.

Few
details were immediately available, including the number and severity
of injuries, the Grant County Public Utility District said.

Emergency
personnel were still on their way to the scene near the town of Mattawa
in Grant County after the explosion, which was reported about 4:15 p.m.
(7:15 p.m. ET).

The explosion didn't affect the stability of the dam, which was in no danger of failing, the Grant County Sheriff's Office said.

The
Mattawa area was experiencing a major cellphone outage early Thursday
evening, the sheriff's office said, but it wasn't immediately clear
whether it was related to the explosion.
