According to Gizmodo News:
This extraordinary image of an apparent floating city has created a stir among conspiracy theorists, but a well-known optical illusion is the likely explanation for the phenomenon.
As reported in the Independent, the bizarre cloud formation appears to show a cityscape high above the city of Foshan in China’s Guangdong province. Footage of the phenomenon appeared on Chinese TV last week and was apparently witnessed by hundreds of astonished onlookers. The sight lasted for only a few minutes before disappearing. A few days later, a similar cloud city was seen in the province of Jiangxi, China.
They also added:
More reasonably, the phenomenon is likely the Fata Morgana optical illusion, a mirage that happens under special conditions. It happens when rays of light are bent after passing through air layers of varying temperatures in a thermal inversion, i.e. a patch of air in which warmer air resides above cooler air.
A Fata Morgana? Could this explain the strange vision in the sky? Or is it something far more complex; or better, far more sinister?
It is said that Fata Morgana mirages are usually seen just above the horizon, and have caused many illusions, which include castles in the air, inverted and floating boats, twisted mountains, and extremely warped atmospheric formations.
However, it is possible this floating city might be an elaborate hoax created by digital manipulation.
Gizmodo News also adds:
The footage of the phenomenon (below) is the only one available, which is hard to believe given that “thousands” of people witnessed it. And though Fata Morgana is a likely explanation, this particular cloud city looks characteristically different than classic Fata Morgana images, which typically appear immediately above the horizon.

I heard an interview on a video in the last few days that said the way these images are projected in the sky is because of the barium and other particles in the chemtrails that leave like a screen in the sky. Then they beam the picture they want people to see down from a satellite onto the back side of this chemtrail screen substance.
There was suppose to have been a black horse flying through the skies somewhere in the middle east not long ago. Then supposedly yesterday in the skies in SE America like around Georgia, NC, SC, TN, areas monsters were shown in the sky. First 4 monsters then 2 more.
They are trying to scare people. So, we will need big government to protect us from the scary stuff in the sky.
If that don’t work. Next they could possibly fake Martians landing in spaceships.

I totally agree with you Sarah. One day the wife and I were driving in Wichita Ks, and looking for the ever ominous Nibiru in the sky , where people everywhere were seeing it. It was partly cloudy, so the view was obviously obstructed, and choppy at best. Well next thng i knew i looked almost straight up from my drivers seat, and POW! Clear as a bell I saw a Huge Reddish colored ball up in the sky, then a few seconds later it disappeared as fast as it came. The point im trying to make here is : Their is no way that thing i saw WAS Nibiru, BUT , I obviously saw something That reseambled it. I think you are so right about the Chemtrails, the aluminum micro particles in the sprays are creating Illusions all around us. They are trying too hide Nibiru from us by ( Mirroring), its location from us, by using HIGHLY reflective material in our atmosphere. As far as ( This ), city in the sky goes, I noticed something noone else has said anything about. ,Namely , Reflectivity. I noticed this ( City), in the sky had Shadows and a ( Bright ), side just like a normal city, and also The ( Bright side), of the city was the same as the Sun where the photos were taken. If it was a Mirage i would think it wouldnt be capable of Reflecting anything, would it? This City reflected ( Sunlight). I dont think its a Mirage, but tend too think more along the line of either Parrallel Universe, or some kind of extreme, (Heat Eddies) , where warm air flowsupward rapidly, and the combo of chemtrails and a developing storm would interact with other cities skyline , and then sends it elsewhere too show up, WHEW! That is just grasping at straws , but it was definitely a City no doubt about it. Weird.

Now about China. The phenomena can also be explained by the amount of AIR POLLUTION of the lawless communist government there over the environment. Not surprised that they are seeing artifacts of AIR POLLUTION. Many pictures of the severe SMOG in cities and the dangerous air they are breathing.

One, I agree, it looks weird as hell, and I have personally never seen anything like it. BUT! There’s a lot of things on this Earth I have never see.
Two, the headline is misleading, since it states “Nobody Seems To Know Exactly What It Is” which is a pretty misleading statement to make when your own article has people saying exactly what they think it is: A Fata Morgana. Which I have never seen in person, but confirmed photographed cases of it, look just as crazy as this.
Like I said, I personally dont know, first video I saw of it was sort of incredible, until you look up Fata Morgana and see it in other places. In the video though, I dont see what buildings this mirage is showing, so, who knows?
