MH17 Shot Down From Ukrainian Army Position

If the missile had been shot by so-called ‘pro-Russian forces’, it would have hit the nose of the airplane, not the side where it actually impacted, says BUK missile maker.

International investigators led by American backed Dutch authorities have concluded that flight MH17 was shot down on July 2014 by a ground-based BUK-M1 missile system fired from an area controlled by the ‘pro-Russian’ rebels, said the Dutch newspaper Volkskrant.

The newspaper cites three sources “that contributed to the completion of the report” on the causes of the accident. The report will be published today by the Dutch Safety Office (SVO).

On the same day this report is submitted, the Russian consortium Almaz-Antey, the maker of the BUK missile system, has concluded its own investigation which reveals that the missile that brought down the Malaysian Boeing was launched from a locality controlled by the Ukrainian forces, not the rebels.

“We can say without a doubt that if the Boeing had been shot down with an antiaircraft BUK system, it was hit by a missile launched from the town of Zaróschenkoye, controlled by the Ukrainian forces,” said Mikhail Malishevski, an official from Almaz-Antey.

The so far most accepted version says that the missile came from the town of Sneshnoe occupied by the pro-Russian rebels. As it is explained in a video released by Almaz-Antey, if the plane had been brought down by a BUK missile launched by the rebels, the impact area would have been on the nose of the plane and not on the left side, which is where investigators have said the entry point was found.

The company, which is under Western sanctions in connection with the Ukrainian crisis, conducted a first simulation of the attack and the results were delivered last August to the Dutch commission, “but according to our information, these results have not been taken into account, so we decided to do a second, larger experiment,” explained Malishevski.

“We did not have a Boeing 777 aircraft available, so we used a Il-86 aircraft, whose fuselage is analogous to the main parameters of the Boeing-777. And we also used a 9M38M1 missile.”

Despite the BUK maker’s explanation, the Dutch investigation says otherwise. It says that the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 was making the trip from Kuala Lumpur to Amsterdam when it was hit by a missile launched from Ukrainian territory. All 298 persons aboard, including 80 children, were killed in the incident.

The accident “was caused by the detonation of a 9N314M warhead launched from eastern Ukraine using a BUK missile system,” says the report, stating that the projectile was fired “from an area of 320 square kilometers in the Eastern Ukraine. “

The missile “impacted the left side above the cockpit” causing the front of the fuselage to be “penetrated by hundreds of objects from the warhead. As a result of the impact and subsequent explosion, the three crew members in the cockpit died immediately and the plane broke up in the air,” explained the statement. The wreckage was scattered in a radius of 50 square kilometers and “the 298 people aboard were killed”.

As explained by the Dutch agency, the type of missile used has identified through fragments found in the wreckage and the bodies of the crew, and the way in which the aircraft disintegrated. These data have been supported by the contents of the black boxes, one of which recorded a crash in the last few milliseconds of the recordings.
