21st Century Wire says…

Two of the main perpetrators of the destruction of Syria – the United States and Turkey – were busy throwing  a temper tantrum today following reports that Syrian president Bashar al Assad landed in Moscow last night for a secret meeting with Russia’s president Vladimir Putin.

The righteous indignation from Washington and Ankara is hollow however, not least of all because more than any other two nations, the US and Turkey (both NATO allied nations) bear a responsibility for the destabilization of the secular nation state of Syria.

As 21WIRE reported previously, along with its partners the US, the UK, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Israel, Turkey has been a primary facilitator of the Syrian conflict by hosting terrorist and ‘rebel’ training and equipping for tens of thousands of fighters since 2011, as well as providing a continuous safe haven for terrorist fighters – freely coming and going over its southern border with Syria. In addition to this, it’s also been discovered that most of the new ISIS recruits are now coming from Turkey.

It’s doubtful that many people in Washington actually understand what has really transpired over the last two weeks in Syria and are currently lashing out with reckless comments because they are still in a state of denial. This was evidenced Earlier this week, US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter went so far as to issue a veiled threat to Moscow. The Guardian reported that Carter’s warning:

Moscow will soon start paying the price for its escalating military intervention in Syria in the form of reprisal attacks and casualties.

It’s safe to say that NATO is still in shock that Russia would dare to enter Syria to assist Damascus in dealing with a mostly foreign terrorist conclave that was being funded, armed and supported by western intelligence agencies, mercenaries and military trainers…

The US and Turkey, two of the Syrian President Bashar Assad’s key opponents, have not cheered his visit to Moscow, with the White House slamming it as a “red carpet welcome.” Russian and Syrian leaders were meeting for crisis consultations and planning.

The White House criticized the way the Syrian leader was received, saying it resembled a “red carpet welcome.” In that same statement, the US also accused Assad of using chemical weapons against his own people and questioned Russia’s interests in a political transition of power in Syria.

“We view the red carpet welcome for Assad, who has used chemical weapons against his own people, at odds with the stated goal by the Russians for a political transition in Syria,” White House spokesman Eric Schultz said.

Assad has stressed on multiple occasions in the past that Western claims that his government had used chemical weapons against the Syrian population are “an insult to common sense” and “nonsense.”

The State Department added that it was not shocked by Assad’s visit to Moscow considering the relationship between the two countries. “It’s not surprising that Bashar Assad would travel to Moscow, given the relationship that Syria has with Russia, and given the recent military activities by Russia in Syria on behalf of Bashar al-Assad,” State Department spokesman John Kirby said at a briefing.

In addition, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu offered sarcastic comments on the topic, stating Assad should have “stayed in Moscow” in order to kick start the transition process…
