USA inc. – A freshly developed squad of exclusively skilled counterterrorism officers is being implemented in New York City in the aftermath of the Hoax Paris terrorist attacks, Mayor Bill de Blasio stated in a press conference on Monday.
“We are taking our anti-terrorist efforts to the next level,” de Blasio explained. “We just deployed our first hundred officers of the Critical Response Command.”
De Blasio mentioned the officers will become element of an elite team of the New York Police Department (NYPD) Counter Terrorism Bureau.
When fully staffed, the squad will expand to contain as many as 500 participants.
Members of the squad will be outfitted with long rifles, armored vests, smart phones and heavily armored vehicles.
The heightened security supplements an already elevated police presence at French government locations and popular tourist locations in New York City.
The increased security was executed on Friday following the terrorist attacks in Paris that left at least 129 people deceased.
