(Before It's News)

Have you ever been jail? What was it like? Was it anything like these 10 bizarre prisons in the world:

10- Halden Prison

Halden Prison is a maximum-security prison located in Halden, Norway. Founded in 2010, it was created with rehabilitation in mind and you can see this through the design inside. Its design is projected to help inmates reintegrate into society by simulating life outside the prison. With the same purpose, there are several activities available to the prisoners that vary from sports to music. Also, they are complemented by the interaction with the non-armed staff to create a sense of community. One of two 5* prisons of this list.

9- Kresty Prison

Furthermore now from a standout amongst the most altruistic penitentiaries in the globe to one of the slightest: Kresty Prison, placed in St. Petersburg, Russia. Manufactured in the 1730s, Kresty looks like the lot you’d want from an old, premonition Russian jail. It was dim and desolate, and severely overpopulated. I state “was” for the reason that – gratefully for the detainees – it was successfully closed down with arrangements to transform it into – what else? – a stimulation and lodging complex.

In the 1990s, it was appraised that 12,500 convicts were detained in Kresty, a staggering figure when you consider that it was composed to house simply 1,150. Units initially intended for singular repression were pressed with up to twenty prisoners around then, constraining them to alternate for access to the cots.

8-Alcatraz Island Prison

Alcatraz Island, sometimes informally referred to as simply Alcatraz or locally as the Rock, is a small island located in the middle of San Francisco Bay in California, United States. It served as a lighthouse, then a military fortification, then a military prison followed by a federal prison until 1963. It became a national recreation area in 1972 and received landmarking designations in 1976 and 1986. Today, the island is a historic site operated by the National Park Service as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and is open to tours. Visitors can reach the island by ferry ride from Pier 33, near Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco.

7- Cebu Prison

It’s pure entertainment at Cebu Prison in the Philippines. Here, inmates get to dance to pop music in unison. The dancing is the unnatural evolution of the exercise program at the jail. Around 1,500 prisoners can contribute to the performances and they also tend to perform at charitable or cultural events and even get paid for it as well. The prison also does live shows, after which spectators can have their pictures taken with inmates and buy t-shirts as well.

6- Hostel Celica

There are several old jails that are turned into hotels, but how many of them have maintained their original prison bars on the doors and windows? You’ll get a real taste of what jail life is like every time you push open the bars to get to your room. The hostel is located in Slovenia. Inside, though, is much nicer décor than what the prisoners once had: each of the 20 former prison cells has a unique design, created by a team of over 50 artists.
