Over 200,000 saiga, a small, critically endangered species of antelope native to central Asia, died earlier this year. The number is about half of the antelope’s entire population, and the mass die-off is the latest in a number of catastrophic losses the increasingly rare species has suffered over the past 15 years. While scientists have yet to figure out the reason for the saiga deaths, they’ve narrowed down the possible causes to unusual rain conditions caused by climate change, which turned a normal bacteria that lives in the Saiga’s stomachs deadly. Will climate change lead to the extinction of the saiga? Watch it on the Lip News with Nik Zecevic and Margaret Howell.
