Bamboo bikes are turning up all over the world! That’s right, bamboo is a plant that’s perfect for building the frame of a bike.
Bamboo is similar in strength to steel, and similar in weight to aluminum — and doesn’t need to be manufactured, just harvested!
Bamboo grows all over the place, so rapidly it’s almost a weed. It even grows in NYC where the Bamboo Bike Studio teaches people to make their own bikes.
They also helped to start a factory in Ghana, with the goal of providing the lowest cost and highest value bicycles to people who want them most.
Made locally and with local materials… empowering, inexpensive and sensible!
