There could be (and are) many blogs on just “living in smaller, more modest ways… more modest than the traditional “I’ve got to own a big house with a big yard and have electric bills of $3000 per month, and that shows how ‘good’ I am” idea. Which I had one opportunity to do, and did, for 2 years, then I had to get out. It was not for me!
I currently live in an approximately 150 square foot ohana (small house), no running water (I have a hose set up outside to do my dishes), built my own porta-toilet which uses no water, and all of my electrical needs will one day be supplied by a Keshe. Very simple… and I love it.
Off the Grid in a Tiny House with Rob Greenfield

Company Selling Pre-Fab Hobbit Hole Homes That Can Be Assembled In Three Days
The Green Magic hobbit hole type is one I’ve not seen from a manufacturer. I’ve seen cob houses, built from/within the earth, but not the pre-fabbed frameworks.
Prefab wooden dome home spins like a UFO to let sunlight in from every angle
Also I guess I’m throwing in another that rotates the entire house to get the best sun angle. I like the “vaulted-ness” of that one. Although the one shown is for sale at a mere $950,000, there may be some inspiration here for smaller homes.
