Help Defend Oppressed Farmer Michael Schmidt

The world can be an unjust place and there are many wrongs desperately in need of being made right. One that came to my attention involves a biodynamic farmer in Canada, Michael Schmidt, who is facing multiple charges and up to 10 years in prison for feeding his community.

Michael is a known person in the Real Food movement because of decades of activism aimed at legalizing the sale of raw milk. Raw milk is illegal to distribute in Canada and Michael has been the target of the Canadian government for over 21 years. Now, he’s one of five peaceful farm owners who were charged with obstruction of justice for refusing to allow the Canadian Ministry of Natural Resources to confiscate farm products and equipment.

This is part of a larger problem that isn’t exclusive to Canada. Farmers in the United States are also routinely criminalized for producing healing foods and peacefully feeding their communities. Government officials hunt for these folks and create unrest and disturbances out of nothing.

Michael doesn’t belong in prison; he belongs on his farm where he can help people. Unfortunately, that’s going to take a fight.
