There was a posting about a very new group, “Stand for Hawaii Businesses“, and I felt very drawn to add a couple comments. This is where the Inner Fire came out.
Please note, I’m not saying every single thing I wrote below is 100% “correct. I do know some who do run businesses that are very Aloha ‘Aina, and pono for all. Remember that TMT was a major international corporation, from outside the islands, not local at all.
The State is constructed as a corporation. Businesses are more important than people. People are needed to pay taxes and run their machines. The State, by its nature, is set up to favor businesses over people. Aloha ‘Aina does not exist for them.
Was it this way in the Kingdom? No. Aloha ‘Aina was the guiding principle.
What the islands are calling for is Aloha ‘Aina…. and for stewards, not exploiters-for-profit, of the land and ocean and waters and people.
That’s why what has happened on the Mauna is so very important to all of us… here, and around the world. Our planet is sacred, a living being. It is clear to more and more that it is time to start living that way.
You know, all of the posts on that page are dated December 13. This must be brand new. Also, their slogan (on the About page) is, “Think Global, Act Local & practice “BUSINESS ALOHA”… which apparently means:
“Build whatever outside developers want, on any land or shoreline, over any sacred sites, say that they are ‘good stewards’, have a groundbreaking with a paid-off hewa kahuna, pretend their project is then ‘blessed’, cut down all those pesky trees that are in the way, kick out any homeless, rip the land apart, and build in a non-Aloha-‘Aina way, with materials that are brought from somewhere other than the islands.
