Putin: ‘Hopefully We Won’t Need Nukes’
As Russia continues to clean up the mess Western intelligence agencies made in Syria, Putin says he “hopes” that nukes won’t be necessary.

Meeting in the Kremlin with Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, who reported the latest results of the anti-Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) ops in Syria, the Russian president made a notable remark.
“We must analyze everything happening on the battlefield, how the weapons operate. The Kalibrs (sea based cruise missiles) and KH-101 (airborne cruise missile) have proved to be modern and highly effective, and now we know it for sure – precision weapons that can be equipped with both conventional and special warheads, which are nuclear. Naturally, this is not necessary when fighting terrorists and, I hope, will never be needed,” Putin said.
This is an interesting choice of words for the Russian president at a very interesting time, as they come just after the U.S has been accused of purposefully attacking the Syrian military for the first time. It is now being reported that four U.S.-led coalition war planes were spotted over the Deir az-Zor area when airstrikes hit the 168th Brigade of the Syrian Army’s 7th Division, killing four Syrian soldiers and wounding 12 others before destroying a bunch of the Syrian Army’s military equipment, including four vehicles with 12.7mm heavy machine guns.
