GOP unable to handle success
It was just a short year ago — Nov. 2014 — CNN, the left-wing television network, went apoplectic, reporting:
“A Republican tide ripped the Senate away from Democrats giving the GOP full control of Congress and the power to pin down President Barack Obama during his last two years in office.
The thumping win upends the balance of power between the White House and Capitol Hill only six years after Obama’s Democrats swept to power and marginalized Republicans in a rush to reform health care, Wall Street and pass a huge stimulus package.
Now, it’s Democrats who will take the back seat on Capitol Hill, relying mostly on the power of the filibuster to stymie Republicans and keep Obama’s legacy intact.”
The equally stunned New York Times headlined its report:
“Riding Wave of Discontent, G.O.P. Takes Senate — Election Results: Republicans Win Senate Control With at Least 7 New Seats.”
Struggling to grasp the enormity of the repudiation of Barack Obama, the liberal newspaper blamed the “uneven character of the economic recovery.”
They needn’t have expended so much energy on anxiety. Republicans are chemists. Its long been known they can take pure gold and turn it to excrement. Paul Ryan, the acclaimed House Speaker replacing John Boehner proved that adage as he oversaw the betrayal of Republican principles in particular and Americans in general by shepherding the $1.1 trillion Omnibus bill that literally funds every major aspect of Obama’s promise to “fundamentally transform the United States of America.”
The Senate Vote can be seen here. Roll Call carries the video and report of the 316 -113 House Vote.
Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh lamented the GOP Sells America Down the River. His conclusion? As he blasted the Republican-led Congress’ passage of the massive 2,009-page Omnibus bill that has the White House declaring victory, a frustrated Limbaugh said, “There is no Republican Party! You know, we don’t even need a Republican Party if they’re gonna do this. Just elect Democrats, disband the Republican Party, and let the Democrats run it, because that’s what’s happening anyway.”
