Russia warns of Islamic State threat to New Year tourists in Thailand

BANGKOK – Ten Syrians linked to the Islamic State group entered Thailand in October to attack Russian interests, Thai police said in a leaked document citing information from Russian intelligence.

The suspects are said to have dispersed to three popular tourist destinations with a view to carrying out attacks during the Christmas and New Year holiday, peak holiday season for foreigners drawn to Thailand’s beaches and bars.

In the document, Special Branch police urged an intensification of security around “target areas that Russian authorities are concerned about,” including venues associated with allies that have taken part in attacks on the Islamic State group in Syria …. http://www.japantimes.co.jp
