Relic hunters in the densely forested Karelian region between Finland and Russia dug up a gently-used pre-owned P08 Luger with a few miles on it.

Invented by Georg J. Luger in 1898, the ubiquitous semi-auto was first adopted by the Swiss then the Germans, becoming almost synonymous with first the Kaiser’s Imperial Army then the short guy with the mustache’s WWII war machine.

This particular 9mm seems to be what’s known as a “42” Code Luger, late production by Mauser for the German military, replacing the S/42 code in early 1939.

The group who found it advises that, “Like in any other country/situation the weapons are declared and handed to the authorities, later on they will decide if they place is in a museum or so…”
