Addressing the Arab League in his Cairo visit, Xi Jinping said Beijing supports peaceful process in the establishment of a Palestinian state. He said maintaining the legitimate interests of the Palestinians is the responsibility of the Arab League and the international community. The parliaments of the U-K, France, Spain, Ireland, Belgium, Portugal and Greece have symbolically recognized Palestine. Sweden, however, officially recognized Palestine in 20-14. In 20-12, the United Nations General Assembly voted to upgrade the status of the Palestinians to that of a non-member observer state. The Palestinian flag was raised for the first time at the U-N headquarters in New York last September.
