I have a theory that makes all of this debate really quite meaningless, and “I also have a bachelor’s degree in engineering”.
The Earth IS two dimensionally flat, but it is also 3 dimensionally spherical. In order for a flat 2d surface to become 3 dimensional, that flat surface must begin spinning. Our science, which is really just a study of how humans perceive our own dimensional realm (and sometimes other dimensions with the aid of technology), has shown that every single thing in our perceived world has a spin.
Now imagine a penny laying flat on a desk–this would be what the Earth looks like to a 2-dimensional molecule or object. Flat Earth would kind of look like our full maps of Earth do. Now imagine that you pick up that stationary penny, then spin the penny.
When you spin the penny on it’s z-axis, you begin to see a spherical shape form while it is spinning. Our flat Earth is spinning so fast and is so large that in the 3rd dimension it appears to take on the solid shape of a sphere to us beings that are also spinning at various speeds.
