Youtube Gun Channel ‘Hickok45’ Temporarily Terminated by Google
If you’ve ever watched any of the video’s on hickok45’s YouTube channel (and I’m willing to bet that you have, since they get millions of page views), you probably know that his work isn’t controversial at all, and is apolitical for the most part. Even the ‘about’ section of his channel reads “You’re at a drama-free shooting channel!” hickok45 is simply an educational platform for firearms enthusiasts, and nothing more.
Unfortunately, some people will always be offended by the mere mention or depiction of firearms, no matter what the context is, which may be why Hickok’s channel was shut down by Google today. Hickok offered a possible explanation for the shut down to his fans this morning on Facebook:
“Apparently, Google + is more sensitive about firearms related postings and such. I never use Google+ and did not even realize the videos were being posted over there, I guess. I will keep you posted via Facebook here and the Hickok45andson channel. I have communicated with YouTube via email this morning, and hopefully, we’ll be able to get the channel back up soon. I had just posted a new video.”
After numerous complaints trickled in from his fans, his channel was reinstated this afternoon, without explanation. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Google+ would do this, considering how social media in general is rife with hypersensitive social justice warriors (also not surprising, is the fact Google employees contributed to Obama’s presidential campaign more than any other company, and their lobbyists have visited his administration hundreds of times). It just goes to show that when you live in a society that is dominated by political correctness, your ability to speak freely and reach the masses can be taken away at a moment’s notice.
