It’s the momentum of the mighty safe food movement!
In another victory for consumers and labeling proponents, Mars announced today that they will join fellow food manufacturers Campbell’s and General Mills and begin voluntarily labeling all U.S. products made with GM ingredients.
Mars stated in their press release today:
“In 2014, the state of Vermont passed a mandatory genetically modified (GM) ingredient labeling law that requires most human food products containing GM ingredients to include on-pack labeling as of July 2016. To comply with that law, Mars is introducing clear, on-pack labeling on our products that contain GM ingredients nationwide.”
Mars also stated that the company is “committed to being transparent with our consumers”.
Mars is a huge player in the food industry, owning twenty-nine brands in total, including five billion-dollar global brands. Voluntarily GMO labeling will appear on their wide range of products, from Snickers and M&Ms to Uncle Ben’s rice.
This victory exemplifies how important it is for consumers to continue to vote with their wallets, and to vote wisely. If we don’t buy it, they can’t sell it!
We are at the tipping point and we have to keep pushing! Join the global March Against Monsanto and be a part of raising awareness and educating your community. This is an event happening all over the globe on May 21, 2016. Find your local event here. For questions or to register a city not on the list, email [email protected].
