More Americans are living beyond the age of 100More and more Americans are not only living to the age 100 but even beyond that with 72,000 Americans who turned 100, they are still living beyond their years. Death rates for centenarians were on the rise between 2000 and 2008 but since 2008 this has been on the decline. Furthermore, cause of death for this age group also changed.

In 2000 the top five causes of death in order were heart disease, stroke, flu/pneumonia, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. In 2014 this changed to heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, stroke cancer and influenza/pneumonia.
