Futurama Warned Us About This: China Unveils New Interactive “Robot Goddess”
Although they are not talking about mass production just yet, researchers at the University of Science and Technology of China have just unveiled Jia Jia, their new “robot goddess”.
Jia Jia can not cry or laugh and these are areas to be developed, Chen added.
“We hope to develop the robot so it has deep learning abilities. We will add facial expression recognition and make it interact more deeply with people,” said Chen.
Chen said he hoped Jia Jia would become a wise “robot goddess.”
The picture really sums it all up though.
What you are seeing is very Pygmalion. As Wikipedia explains, “In ancient Greek mythology, Pygmalion fell in love with one of his sculptures, which then came to life…”
But that isn’t a real woman. No matter how “real” they try to make her look, no matter how “beautiful,” no matter the programming, Jia Jia isn’t a human being. Any human man who attempts to have a relationship with this “goddess” will not be in a real relationship with a real emotional connection. No matter how sophisticated the technology, it is still and will always be just a robot.
However, if you check out comment sections on videos and stories about this kind of thing, you will see scores of men and women arguing about it. Women saying the robots will never be as good as the real thing or that robots will be better than men anyway because the robot will remember their anniversary and never forget to put the toilet seat down, and men claiming that robots will be easier to put up with because they aren’t as “high maintenance” as women and don’t require fancy dates and flowers etc. to give it up.
So the arguments go that wouldn’t life just be better for everyone with a fake “person” that’s programmed to care about everything you say and do? Never argue, never have any complaints? No thoughts of their own? Programmed to make you feel loved and adored and wait on you hand and foot?
Are people really this lazy, self-centered, and stupid?
Then again, it’s already being predicted that real human connections will go extinct just like humans will when the majority of them are in “relationships” with robots instead of other human beings. At the very least, we’ll all be a lot easier to control, won’t we?
Somewhere the population control-consumed elite are laughing their heads off about this, the fact that they will get large portions of the population to forgo real human relationships for fakery with machines.
You know, even Futurama warned us about this…
