Hogue, Inc.’s stocks, grips, and forends are seen on a lot of firearms these days, and now the American family company is keeping up with the times by providing a new rail cover.

The G10 KeyMod rail cover is the latest addition to Hogue’s selection of tactical AR accessories. Managing partner Neil Hogue said, “we’ve offered our own line of OverMolded rubber AR forends for years, but there is a segment of the population that utilize KeyMod handguards that has been asking for a Hogue product to complement their build. The Hogue KeyMod Rail Covers are a perfect solution to their need.”

The new rail covers mount on AR handguards and provide additional grip and heat protection only where the user wants it. Mounting is done using two, two-part hex screws per cover. The process is simple and rapid, as the screws fit into KeyMod slits on handguards.

KeyMod was developed in an effort to create a universal attachment system for AR-platform firearms.

The rail covers are made from G10 laminate, and precision-machined. Hogue’s website describes G10 as “a high-pressure thermoset plastic laminate consisting of multiple layers of woven fiberglass mesh cloth impregnated with an epoxy resin binder.”

G10 is highly useful for creating custom coloration, but Hogue’s patented G10-making process takes the unique look a step further.  Normal G10 production is done in layers.  Color can be customized by alternating layers of color during production.  The Hogue process adds the ability to put designs into the translucent layers.

Hogue calls the finish “mini-piranha” to reflect the non-slip texture. Covers are machined to eliminate snagging and pinching.

Each rail is 4.3 inches long and 0.625 inches across, and weighs less than an ounce. Seven colors are available, including Hogue’s exclusive G-Mascus black/gray. Other colors were made with the possibility of matching other Hogue accessories in mind. Of course, basic black is among the choices.

Rails are sold individually, with an MSRP of $24.95.
