Returning to the foundations of LSD, this short documentary from the 1950s takes a comprehensive look at the natural, medical, and social history, commercial production, and obstetric use of ergot – a parasitic fungus that contains Lysergic acid, the precursor to LSD – and its derivative ergometrine. It was the alkaloids found within ergot that were used in the very first synthesis of LSD, making this an excellent documentary for anyone interested in the events that led to the conception of lysergic acid diethylamide.
