Running and gunning with a vintage IBM M1 Carbine (VIDEO)
During World War II the classic .30 caliber M1 Carbine was made by a number of unlikely companies including the example by office machine maker IBM used in this run and gun from The Firearm Blog.
Of the more than 6.5 million war baby M1s cranked out by the Arsenal of Democracy, International Business Machine Corporation, known for their typewriters and adding machines, delivered about 350,000 from their plant in Poughkeepsie, New York. Other oddball makers included jukebox maker Rock-Ola, National Postal Meter (guess what they made) and IBM’s competitor in the typewriter game– Underwood Elliot-Fisher.
Alex from TFB gives a good walk around of the M1, then heads to the range to see if it can still type out a few rounds after 70 years.
Not to spoil it, but they don’t make em like they used to.
