(Before It's News)

It happened again, and we couldn’t be more honored: Truthdig has been nominated, as part of a lineup that includes some of the most distinguished sites in the political blogosphere, in the “Political Blog/Websites” category for the 2016 Webby Awards.

Truthdig made the Webby judges’ cut this year alongside The Nation, Bloomberg Politics, The Council on Foreign Relations’ “The Eastern Congo” dedicated site and FactCheck.org.

“This is in many respects our most important year, given the current political climate in America. It has never been more crucial to maintain independence as a news outlet,” said Truthdig Publisher Zuade Kaufman.

Online voting for the People’s Voice Award, which is decided by popular vote, is up as of Tuesday and runs until the stroke of midnight on April 22. If you’d like to vote for Truthdig, we’d be grateful; here’s that link again.

People’s Voice Award winners—as well as winners of the juried award, chosen by a panel picked by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences—are announced on April 26. The awards ceremony will be held in New York City on May 16.

Nominees in the News category include the Intercept, the Guardian and the New York Times. Representing the celebrity contingency of the Webbys in the awards-fest’s 20th year are Beyoncé, Rihanna, First Lady Michelle Obama and Caitlyn Jenner. Above all, we are happiest to share this news with our readers, who represent our first priority and our inspiration for doing what we do.

Finally, in keeping with what has become a tradition of sorts over the years, we’d like to once again post Truthdig Editor in Chief Bob Scheer’s colorful five-word speech from the 2010 Webby ceremony, held at Cipriani Wall Street (via YouTube):
