This award winning short film, appropriately titled “Wrapped,” is an incredible graduation project from Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg that depicts the eerie, yet breathtaking apocalyptic scenario in which our modern world is rapidly overgrown and reclaimed by powerful vines. Using a blend of real footage, stunning CG, and unique science fiction aspects, this time-lapse motion picture creates a powerfully visual, audible, and thought-provoking experience.
The film was idealized, realized, and directed by student filmmakers Roman Kaelin, Falko Paeper and Florian Wittmann at the institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction. The team offers a brief, but accurate description of their work: “The short explores the effects of time and change focusing on the the world’s seemingly never ending cycles. The deterioration of one is the foundation for another. This fact takes on new dimensions when the unexpected forces of nature clash with the existing structures of our civilization.”
Wrapped was first released in 2014, at which point it was screened at over 100 festivals, receiving praise from thousands of viewers, as well as a plethora of awards. The short was made viewable online for the first time
