The “Golden Ratio Coloring Book,” created by Venezuelan architect and illustrator Rafael Araujo, is a remarkable representation of both the artistic and scientific aspects of the natural world. Each illustration focuses on intelligent patterns of growth that are governed by the Golden Ratio and found throughout nature. This ratio is most often annotated using the Greek letter Phi (ϕ), is equal to 1.618~, and has been identified in a wide range of natural constructs from crystals, seashells, leaves, butterfly wings, even galaxies. Appropriately, the phrase “phyllotaxis” is now used to describe objects that demonstrate the natural occurrence of this spiraling behavior.
Armed with nothing more than a pencil, ruler, compass and protractor, Araujo has spent 40 years perfecting these highly detailed drawings and revealing the mathematical brilliance of the natural world. Each illustration has been created with painstaking precision, taking up to 100 hours to complete a single one. With the help of an incredibly successful, ongoing KickStarter campaign, this amazing coloring book will soon be available globally.
