(Before It's News)

Both sides in the debate on California Lt. Gov Gavin Newsom’s pending voter referendum to change the states gun laws spoke in front of the legislature Tuesday.

In more than two hours of hearings in front of a a joint Assembly and Senate committee hearing held in Sacramento, all sides gave testimony.

First up was Anita Lee of the California Legislative Analyst’s Office, detailing that office’s take on the expansive proposal.

Next up are those in support of the initiative: Ari Freilich and Julie Leftwich, with the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, who helped craft the language of the act, and attorney Tom Willis.

Then, you have some of the growing ranks of those against the new gun control scheme: Craig DeLuz, Firearms Policy Coalition; Michelle Hanisee, Los Angeles Assn. of Deputy District Attorneys; Kathy Lynch, National Shooting Sports Foundation; Cory Salzillo, California State Sheriffs Association and Joe Silvoso, Coalition for Civil Liberties.

Finally you have public comment.

Newsom and his allies are currently in the process of vetting some 600,000 signatures to move forward with the initiative for this November’s general election.
