Video: Chicago Cop Arrested For Beating A Handcuffed Man
After two years of hiding behind the ‘thin blue line’, a veteran Chicago Police Officer has been charged with ‘official misconduct’. Officer Clauzell Gause was caught on two different cameras beating a handcuffed man, who ironically was a patient at Jackson Park Hospital against the wall, then punching him at least three times.
The victim suffered lacerations and swelling to his forehead.
Officer Gause tried to justify his cowardly decision to punch a defenseless man, by claiming that the patient had punched him earlier while nurses were checking his blood pressure.
Even if that is true, why did the coward cop wait until the man was handcuffed to ‘defend’ himself? The truth is, there is no excuse.
“You and I and those who chose a life of public service, we’re held to a higher standard. That’s the long and short of it,” Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. told Officer Clauzell Gause.
Officer Gause was suspended and placed on administrative duties since the department learned of his alleged conduct in 2014, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a prepared statement.
“The Chicago Police Department has zero tolerance for misconduct or any activity which undermines the integrity of our officers and our efforts to rebuild public trust,” Guglielmi said.
My question to CPD spokesman Guglielmi would be, “If you’re so concerned about building the public’s trust, why did the CPD wait TWO years to release the video? After watching the video, why did you give the coward cop a desk job INSTEAD of terminating and arresting him them?”
Unfortunately, the CPD does not care about public trust. They care about trying to cover up the crimes committed by the men and women of their department to prevent lawsuits and public mistrust.
