John McCain, appearing Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” said that Donald Trump needs to “heal many of the wounds” he opened during the initial phase of his presidential campaign. “I think it’s obvious there has to be outreach on his part to heal many of the wounds. Frankly, I have never seen a campaign like this one, where people’s integrity and character are questioned.” One group that needs an apology, McCain said, are prisoners of war.
In July 2015, Trump appeared at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa and said McCain is “a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”
“There’s a body of American heroes who would like to see him retract that statement,” McCain said.
“That bothers me a lot. It bothers me a lot because you can violently disagree with someone on an issue, but to attack their character and integrity, those wounds take a long time to heal.” McCain said Trump needed to show more respect for POWs.
That’s an interesting perspective from McCain — though a Vietnam veteran and POW himself — he attacked families of POWs and MIAs in congressional hearings and went to great lengths to make those files secret.
In McCain’s case — the self-described “maverick,” first elected in 1982, has spent well over three decades in D.C. colluding with Democrats, and at age 80 is arrogantly running for yet another six-year term — proving the old adage, those heels take a long time to wound.
John McCain’s hero status can’t be questioned, but these are the facts: On veterans’ issues, John McCain talks out of both sides of his mouth. This list of key votes (provided by Project Vote Smart) unequivocally shows McCain has either not voted or often voted in opposition to legislation affecting veterans, troops, reservists and their families. The worst scandal involving the Veterans Administration Hospital occurred in here in Arizona under John McCain’s watch resulting in needless deaths of military personnel awaiting care.
John McCain has done everything in his power to block the release of information on American Vietnam era MIAs as evident in this shocking video by Vietnam Veterans Against McCain. It features veterans, U.S. Congressmen and knowledgeable staff.
This equally stunning video shows John McCain stomping out of a congressional hearing after insulting Delores Alfond, chair of the National Alliance of Families, who spent her life seeking information after her brother was shot down over North Vietnam. McCain intentionally made sure all information was classified and made unavailable.
Ask yourself, “Why?” It’s John McCain, himself, who has the explaining to do.
macain is a total phony–killed 142 sailors when he backfired his jet playing around on a aircraft carrier and cause a huge fire and explosions–his daddy got him out of that one–then as a pow he paled around with the enemy and got a hotel suite while everybody else suffered–a total maggot
