(Before It's News)

U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Marcus put the 1900 Morgan silver dollar and dog tag carried by his grandfather on D-Day back into the sand of Omaha Beach for the fist time in 72 years.

Marcus, a Jumpmaster, has carried his grandfather’s tag and lucky silver dollar with him through several combat zones and was able to visit the beaches of Normandy on the anniversary of the largest combined airborne and amphibious assault in military history this week.

As part of the 72nd Anniversary of D-Day, some 320 Paratroopers from France, Germany and the U.S.–including the “All Americans” of SFC. Jett’s 82nd Airborne Division jumped into Sainte-Mere-Eglise, France on June 5, 2016.

The city, just inland from the beaches, is home to the Airborne Museum and was captured by the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment (505th PIR) of the 82nd in the predawn hours of June 6, 1944 after heavy casualties.
