Benjamin Franklin once said: “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” There are many constitutional conservatives, present company included, who would agree with that statement. With that said, in the current environment, I can’t help but wonder how much “temporary safety” is even available these days. In just about every facet of life, Americans are giving up their essential liberties left and right expecting to get some temporary safety, only to end up being spied on by the party they’re expecting to keep them safe…
In the video below, Gary Franchi discusses new weapons being rolled out by DARPA to fight “online extremism” and “fake news.” Officials are saying, “If the online world is part of the ‘battlefield,’ a new Pentagon program is building tools to evaluate how the battle is going. The program will target problems ranging from “phony news,” to “terrorist propaganda.” That’s a rather interesting mix of alleged “threats” wouldn’t you say? Recall that a Department of Defense training manual was obtained by Judicial Watch via a Freedom of Information Act request, and that manual defined a “domestic extremist” as follows:
1. Americans who are ‘reverent of individual liberty,’ and ‘suspicious of centralized federal authority’ are possible ‘extreme right-wing’ terrorists.
2. The document linked above also lists people who embrace “individual liberties” and honor “states’ rights,” among other characteristics, as potential “extremists” who are likely to be members of “hate groups.”
3. Finally, the document goes on to call the Founding Fathers, “extremists.”
By Obama’s standards George Washington would be hauled off by DHS, and anything relating to the Constitution, right to life, Christianity, or the Second Amendment is “phony” in the eyes of liberals… so how much safety do people think they’re getting here? History will not be kind to this generation of fools who gave away the shining city on a hill for nothing but a bunch of lies…
Multiple motivations may have been at play in the Orlando killer’s attack at the Pulse night club in Orlando this week. While it is possible to overstate the influence of the Islamic State, it is impossible to ignore ISIS messaging as at least one contributing factor. On Tuesday President Obama said that the killer “appears to have absorbed” messages from ISIS, whose propaganda, “videos, their postings are pervasive and more easily accessible than we want.” If the online world is part of the battlefield, a new Pentagon program is building tools to evaluate how the battle is going.
“From phony news on Web sites to terrorist propaganda on social media to recruitment videos posted by extremists, conflict in the information domain is becoming a ubiquitous addition to traditional battlespaces. Given the pace of growth in social media and other networked communications, this bustling domain of words and images—once relegated to the sidelines of strategic planning—is poised to become ever more critical to national security and military success around the globe,” reads the program description for the Quantitative Crisis Response, or QCR, from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA.
DARPA posted the program description this week, several days after Michael Lumpkin, director of the State Department’s Global Engagement Center, or GEC, revealed the program in an interview with Defense One.
“Many tools are available today to reveal whether rockets and bombs hit their targets or otherwise achieved their tactical goals. But no such tools are available to rigorously assess the effects of the volleys of information that are traded through social media and other communications channels,” reads the description.
THE VOICE OF REASON is the pen name of Michael DePinto, a graduate of Capital University Law School, and an attorney in Florida. Having worked in the World Trade Center, along with other family and friends, Michael was baptized by fire into the world of politics on September 11, 2001. Michael’s political journey began with tuning in religiously to whatever the talking heads on television had to say, then Michael became a “Tea-Bagging” activist as his liberal friends on the Left would say, volunteering within the Jacksonville local Tea Party, and most recently Michael was sworn in as an attorney. Today, Michael is a major contributor to www.BeforeItsNews.com, he owns and operates www.thelastgreatstand.com, where Michael provides what is often very ‘colorful’ political commentary, ripe with sarcasm, no doubt the result of Michael’s frustration as he feels we are witnessing the end of the American Empire. The topics Michael most often weighs in on are: Martial Law, FEMA Camps, Jade Helm, Economic Issues, Government Corruption, and Government Conspiracy.
