Blast in Central Park near Elie Wiesel’s funeral severs man’s foot; police suspect fireworks mishap (WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT)
A blast in Central Park severed the left foot of a young man visiting New York from Virginia Sunday, witnesses said.
The NYPD’s bomb squad was investigating the area of the park near E. 60th St. and Fifth Ave. Cops at the scene suspected a mishap involving fireworks and said it did not appear an explosive device caused the boom heard from blocks away around 11 a.m.
The victim was identified by sources as Connor Golden, 18, from Fairfax, Va.
His foot was “all but gone,” one witness said.
Two of his shocked friends — identified by sources as Thomas Hinds, 20, and Matthew Stabile, 18 — denied they were carrying fireworks moments before being taken away in an ambulance.
In an interview from the 19th Precinct stationhouse with the Daily News, Hinds said he first stepped down off a rock in Central Park, with his pal, Golden, behind him.
“I got down the hill and boom, my ears were ringing. I felt a wave, a gust hit me in the back,” Hinds said.
“I turned around and saw him on the ground with his foot bleeding.
“It just demolished his foot. His foot was mutilated,” Hinds added.
Golden groaned on the ground but remained conscious.
“His foot was gone and he handled it pretty well,” Hinds said. “He’s a tough guy…All he said was ‘get help.’”
He hesitated to say a bomb had gone off, because the explosion wasn’t that large.
“I want to say someone planted a firework or bottle rocket,” Hinds said.
“It seemed like he stopped on something that was pressure sensitive.” READ MORE

You can’t take your salvation for a test drive. You’re all-in or not.
Admit to Him that you are a sinner in need of forgiveness, that you are truly sorry for your sins. Acknowledge that He died for your sins, rose from the dead and lives forevermore. Invite Him into your life and to help you to turn from sin. Rejoice! You just became a Christian! Now trust in Him and get to know Him through the Bible which tells us everything we need to know and through prayer/talking to Him. He eagerly desires relationship with you.
