Followup SC: Unknown Bystander Shot Antwan Maurice Sams in Self Defense

Lt. Craig Stivender, who heads the city’s detective bureau, said multiple witnesses told investigators that Sams was reportedly involved in a verbal dispute in the parking lot of the McDonald’s Restaurant at 1404 Sniders Highway.
As the dispute progressed, Stivender said, Sams allegedly pulled a handgun and waved it at several people in the parking lot. He then reportedly fired at an 18-year-old Walterboro man, hitting him in the abdomen.
At that point in time, Stivender explained, someone else in the parking lot fired on Sams, fatally wounding him.
Investigators, he said, have not been able to determine who fired at Sams, but the witness statements have police concluding that whoever shot Sams acted in self-defense.
